Britain: We closely monitor the situation on the Evin prison fire in Iran

The British Minister of State for Middle East and South Asia Tariq Ahmed said on Sunday that his country is “closely” the situation regarding the Evin prison fire in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
The Iranian government is in charge of safeguarding the safety of all inmates at the facility, the British minister further stated on Twitter.

This comes while the fire that broke out in Evin prison in Tehran during the night of Saturday-Sunday with at least four prisoners, a month after the protests began on the death of the young Iranian, Muhsa Amini, according to what the authorities announced, on Sunday.
Four detainees perished as a result of the fire’s smoke dissolving, while 61 other people were hurt, he added, noting that four of the injured were in “serious condition.”

” On Sunday, human rights organizations expressed concerns about the lives of prisoners, after hearing gunshots and explosions during the fire that broke out inside the complex, which was seen smoke and fire exited from, according to video clips posted on social media.
As a result of the use of tear gas by the police inside the prison, the relatives of prisoners and human rights organisations raised worry for the life of the inmates.

The authorities claim that the fire, which Tehran attributed to “riots and fights,” was put out at a time when Iranians are protesting the death of 22-year-old Mhisa Amini, who died after being detained for breaking the country’s strict dress code.
