Algeria: Independent lists won the majority of seats in the local partial elections

In the Algerian partial local elections, which took place yesterday, Saturday, and included 6 municipalities in the states of Bejaia and Tizi and Zo in the country’s east, independent lists were able to win 74 seats, or 82.22 percent of the total seats available.

During a press conference held today, Sunday, to announce the preliminary results of these elections, the president of the Independent Algerian Elections Authority, Mohamed Sharafi, stated that the 12 independent lists had won 74 of the 90 seats available, representing 82.22 percent of the vote. The National Liberation Front, which won 7 seats, came in second with 7.78 percent of the vote.

It is noteworthy that none of the six towns involved in the partial elections have a popular council due to the lack of candidates in the November 27 local elections, which made it necessary to hold these partial elections.

Algerian local partial elections saw independent lists take the majority of the seats.
