Reuters, 16 August Despite being reduced to 10 men when Darwin Nunez was given a red card, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is proud of his squad for bouncing back to tie 1-1 with Crystal Palace on Monday.
Luis Diaz overcame Forward Palaces’ first goal. Nunez received a headbutt penalty in his home debut.
I told the boys after the game that Im proud of them, Klopp said to reporters.
I thought the second-half start was fantastic again, but then the red card happened.
But the world’s best response from (Diaz) at the time was a wonderful goal.
And from that moment on, it was a fantastic game, he continued, noting how much pressure they applied to Palace with just 10 men.
Nunez was issued a straight red card in the 57th minute for reacting to a shove from Palace defender Joachim Andersen, and Klopp said the Uruguayan international needs to learn from his mistake, which will almost certainly result in a three-match ban.
Following Nunez’s dismissal, Klopp is pleased with Liverpool for keeping their energy.
