As of October 16, 2022, CAIRO Archaeologists and historians have been interested in ancient Egypt for a long time, but only recently have they learned about the sophisticated society that the pharaohs established thousands of years ago.
William Matthew Flinders Petrie, a British Egyptologist, has been referred to as the “Father of Egyptian Archaeology.”
In the middle of the 1880s, he was the first to introduce archaeology methods to Egypt, and as a result of his efforts, researchers have learned a great deal about what life was like for the ancient Egyptians.
Researchers have also been able to examine life in the contemporary era before the pharaohs came to power, roughly 3000 BC in 2015. The “City of Falcons,” also known as Hierakonpolis, was the religious and political centre of Upper Egypt. Archaeologists have carried out excavations there.
According to the Smithsonian Channel documentary “Secrets: Monsters of the Pharaohs,” archaeologists have made a remarkable discovery, as archaeologist Renee Friedman has found the remains of animals that came directly from the African continent. According to the British Daily Express website, the researchers were able to demonstrate that animals like tigers, crocodiles, and ostriches were preserved in Egypt so that people living in the prehistoric age could observe them.
In essence, we have the first zoo in the world here, Friedman stated when explaining what this discovery means. It has a history of around 6000 years. That was prior to the development of writing, the potter’s wheel, and the pyramids, which were not even a twinkle in the monarch’s eye at the time.
Friedman and her team were also able to determine when the animals were buried.
Because of the nearly identical dates, she said, “this allowed us to acquire carbon for 14 dates, which showed us that many of these creatures were all buried at the same time.”
The first zoo was built by the ancient Egyptians 6,000 years ago.
