The Creighton RCMP has been extremely active in the small town despite it being only halfway through October.
The village has 1,402 residents as of the 2016 census, and it is located directly along the border between Saskatchewan and Manitoba in Northern Saskatchewan.
Through October, Creighton RCMP will be warning the public about an uptick in crime complaints.
There have been 15 break-ins, 2 robberies, 5 vehicle thefts, and 3 attempted vehicle thefts as of October 15.
Since October 1, 2022, there have also been three break-ins involving the theft of firearms, one arson, and other incidents in the Denare Beach and Creighton neighbourhoods that have been reported to police.
The majority of these offences, according to the RCMP, have been reported in the last four days, and according to a preliminary investigation, some of these occurrences might be related.
The Creighton RCMP are actively looking into these incidents and trying to apprehend those responsible. At this time, no charges have been brought.
The commander of the Creighton RCMP Detachment, Sgt. Kelly Dinsdale, says, “We want the public to be aware of the recent increasing demands for assistance in our detachment area.”
“We are requesting that people make sure their homes, barns, and cars are locked. We are actively investigating these incidents and to assist with our investigation, we are asking the public to please report all suspicious persons or activity to police immediately.
The inquiry into the series of crimes has now included the fire department.
A fire was reported to the RCMP on October 14 just before 8:00 p. m. There, they discovered a deceased person, whose identity has not been confirmed.
The Creighton Fire Department located the person inside a house on Spruce Street in Denare Beach. Creighton RCMP said they will continue to work with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service to determine if the death is considered suspicious in nature.
As they work with fire investigators from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Association to identify the cause of the fire, investigators are attempting to ascertain whether this fire is related to any of the previously reported events.
