The Egyptian Ambassador in Nouakchott discusses with the Mauritanian Minister of Environment preparations for the Sharm El Sheikh Summit

Khaled Youssef, the Egyptian ambassador to Mauritania, and Lalia Kamra, the Mauritanian minister of the environment, discussed the summit of the states parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change preparations during a meeting in Nouakchott.

The meeting, according to Ambassador Khaled Youssef, was focused on the fact that Egypt places a high priority on the issue of climate change and emphasises the value of remaining loyal to developed nations in light of their obligations to provide funding and technology transfers as well as to help developing nations develop their capacity to deal with the phenomenon’s effects.

In a statement to the Middle East News Agency in Nouakchott following the meeting attended by the partners, climate friends, ambassadors of European countries, and UN officials, Ambassador Youssef added that the Egyptian presidency had launched a number of initiatives of a practical nature to deal with various aspects of the issue and that it was working to gather the support and funding required to implement these Initiatives, which will positively affect the outcomes of the meeting.

He emphasised that there is a different responsibility between developed and developing countries regarding the cost of pollution and said that the developed countries have not yet met their obligations to provide one hundred billion dollars to finance initiatives to reduce the effects of climate change and adapt to them.

The Sharm El Sheikh Summit arrangements are discussed with the Mauritanian Minister of the Environment by the Egyptian Ambassador in Nouakchott.
