The French President: The demarcation of the borders between Lebanon and Israel will allow the benefit of oil and gas quantities

Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, once again expressed his congratulations to Lebanon on the success of the agreement to demarcate the southern maritime borders with Israel. He emphasised the difficult and arduous journey that led to the agreement and said that France made a modest contribution. Macron believes that the agreement is positive for Lebanon and the entire region because it will enable the extraction of significant amounts of oil and gas.

During a phone call from his French counterpart congratulating him on securing the Southern Naval Border Agreement, Lebanese President Michel Aoun learned this.
For his part, Lebanese President Michel Aoun renewed the assertion of Lebanon’s gratitude for France’s permanent standing by his side, especially President Macron’s standing personally alongside Lebanon and its people, in the various circumstances he passed.

President Aoun went over the steps that had been taken with his French counterpart and said that the next step was for the necessary paperwork to be signed in accordance with the agreements made in order to begin drilling and oil and gas extraction operations. He also noted that this would help to ease the country’s current economic woes and have a significant positive impact on Lebanon’s stability.

The French president viewed the agreement as an opportunity to achieve stability in Lebanon and the region, and he emphasised that France will work to implement the agreement, especially with “Total.” He emphasised that Lebanon and its people depend heavily on France to carry out the obligations of the agreement and benefit from it on various levels.

The Lebanese President confirmed that he would continue his effort to achieve the reforms necessary to achieve recovery, especially the continuation of criminal audit until reaching its ends, leading to the approval of the banking amendment law and the restructuring of the banking sector, and that he would work until the last minute of his mandate to preserve the stability. President Aoun and Macron discussed the current circumstances that Lebanon faces during their phone call.

The French President emphasised his support for Lebanon to reach a final agreement with the World Bank, in addition to Securing food security for him through appropriate international organisations and bodies. He noted that France also wants to respect the path of constitutional entitlements, on its dates, noting that the election of a new president of the Lebanese Republic is a sovereign matter for Lebanon and as a constitutional priority that must be respected.
