— (Reuters) Liverpool are “as confident as ever” heading into their Premier League matchup with fierce rivals Manchester City after hammering Rangers 7-1 in a midweek Champions League match, according to midfielder Harvey Elliott.
Liverpool has had a dismal league season thus far and is currently 11th with 10 points after 8 games, 13 points behind City in second place. But Elliott said their statement win at Ibrox has handed them a much-needed boost.
In an interview posted on Liverpool’s website on Saturday, Elliott said, “Coming off a 7-1 win, we’re as confident as ever, I think, and that performance demonstrated what we truly are about and what we can achieve.
“City will be a distinct kind of game. We’re probably in the greatest possible position heading into the game coming off this win, but it’s going to be very difficult and a lot of hard effort needs to go into training from now until then.
To be completely honest, I believe that regardless of whether I participate or not, this game will remain in my memory forever.
On Sunday, Liverpool welcomes City to Anfield.
Elliott claims that Liverpool is confident going into the match against City.
