Turkey .. an explosion in a charcoal mine behind dozens of deaths

According to the Turkish Minister of Health’s announcement on Friday, at least 22 people were killed and 28 others were hurt in an explosion at a coal mine in northern Turkey. Rescue crews are currently working to reach dozens of workers who remain trapped underground.

While the region’s governorate, Nortage Arslan, stated that hundreds of metres are trapped and that rescue attempts are hampered by the night, it is expected that the first official outcome reported by the minister of health, Fakhruddin Khojah, will grow.
Investigations are still ongoing to determine what caused the mine explosion in the coastal province of Partin’s Amrah town.

According to Rajai Shakir, the mayor of Usrah, 87 workers were present in the mine when it erupted, according to a Turkish television station.
At least 14 miners, he continued, either left the mine on their own or were rescued. Two of them sustained wounds.
The mayor stated that six of the workers were “without movement” inside the mine, but he continued that he was unsure if they had been killed or just hurt.

Rescue crews from nearby governorates as well as other teams were dispatched to the region.
