14 workers were killed and 21 others were hurt in an explosion that occurred in a coal mine in the country’s north on Friday, leading to a siege of them underground, according to Suleiman Sweilo, the interior minister of Turkey.
According to the official “Anatolia” agency, the explosion took place inside the mine in the Amasra region of Persan, on the Black Sea, at a depth of 300 metres.
The state governor, Nortage Arslan, was earlier quoted by the agency as stating that although the rescue teams were able to clear 14 mines, at least 49 people remain buried.
