Reports of an Algerian movie crowned the grand prize of the Maghreb Film Festival

With the majority of the votes of the jury of the Maghreb Film Festival, the Algerian director Abdel Karim Bahloul won the Grand Prix of the Long Film for his work “Fee”.
Film critics noted that Bahloul stuck to a traditional formula by telling a ghost story that reflected how women were viewed in the Maghreb.

“His outlook on the cinema remained identical to his personality, upbringing and living in Algeria,” said Bashir Dais, “Today, the Maghreb needs directors working with this sincere, clean and understandable view. ”
The Moroccan film “On the way” earned the top prize in the short film competition, and Mahdi Ayouch’s “Al-Shifoura” received the jury’s special prize.

The Moroccan poet Sameh Darwish, the Algerian actress Malika Bilby, and the Moroccan actress Fadila Ben Musa were recognised at the festival’s closing ceremony.

There have been rumours that an Algerian film won the Maghreb Film Festival’s top honour.
