At the end of her visit to Lebanon, the French Foreign Minister, Catherine Colona, called for her visit to Lebanon, on Friday afternoon, to elect a new president for the republic before the end of this October, noting that Lebanon cannot tolerate the danger of emptiness in power.
After meeting today with President Michel Aoun, Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri, and the Caretaker Government Naguib Mikati, Cologne spoke at a press conference at Beirut International Airport.
She added, “I said on the second of September in Paris and I want to repeat it today in Beirut this vigilance is necessary in Lebanon and it is possible, and in the current framework it will be expensive and dangerous to reach the Lebanese consequences and consequences of another political crisis, and the challenge is to avoid any presidential vacuum after the term of the president ends Aoun.
She emphasised that “This is a stance that we have in common with other friends of Lebanon in Europe.
“The option of the Lebanese president returns to the Lebanese, and they alone must select a president who can collaborate with regional and international partners to overcome the crisis and preserve the security and stability of Lebanon, she noted.
“France revives the historic agreement that took place on the demarcation of the southern maritime borders between Lebanon and Israel,” she declared, adding that “its implementation will be for the benefit of the two countries, which is a sign of the stability of the region and proves that the dialogue always bears its fruits.
This is a message I hold out to you that the Lebanese government is capable of making the required decisions, but this agreement does not take the place of economic and financial reforms.
The French ambassador to Lebanon requests that the republican president be chosen by the end of October.
