Two dead, at least 10 injured in Serbia footbridge collapse

Two women died and at least 10 people were injured on Thursday (local time) after a suspension footbridge collapsed into a river in central Serbia, according to local media reports.
The incident took place in the village of Ovcar Banja when a bus that was allegedly transporting tourists from Bosnia pulled down for a break next to a bridge over a nearby river.
According to the nation’s main RTS television network, the deceased were confirmed dead after the injured were transferred to a hospital in the adjacent town of Cacak.

The woman perished after becoming trapped in the ropes of the bridge.
Zlatokosa Palangetic, a survivor, narrated how the bridge started to fall apart.
“All of a sudden, the bridge’s supports started to break apart. I’m not sure what was going through my head at that time.
“I believed that would be the end, that I would die.”
She claimed that swimming helped her get to the river bank.
The collapse was probably due to the bridge becoming overladen, local media reported..
