The Houthi designation as a terrorist organisation should be reconsidered, the Saudi representative to the UN emphasised.
Dr. Abdulaziz bin Muhammad Al-Wasl, the ambassador, also said today, Thursday, that the Houthi militia had thwarted the truce and kept Yemeni cities under siege.
In response, the UAE envoy at the UN hailed Saudi Arabia’s involvement in Yemen and the presidential council’s contribution to the armistice extension.
The lack of concern the Houthis have for the suffering of Yemenis was made obvious to the Security Council, he claimed.
These remarks followed the UN representative for Yemen, Hans Grendberg, saying on Thursday that he regretted not extending the cease-fire in the nation and warned that doing so would have significant risks.
He demanded both the release of the prisoners and an ongoing ceasefire in a speech to the Security Council.
The UN Security Council held, earlier today, its monthly meeting on Yemen, to discuss the latest developments in the political, military and humanitarian situation in the country, especially the international truce that Grendberg seeks to extend 6 months instead of two months despite the difficulties and obstruct the Houthi militia.
This happened after international efforts to extend the previous global ceasefire, which ended on October 2nd, were unsuccessful.
The Yemeni sides agreed to prolong the ceasefire for two more months under the same terms, from August 2 to October 2, 2022, the UN reported on August 2.
This prolongation followed a prior international ceasefire on all fronts of the conflict in Yemen that went into effect in April (2022) for a length of time. The provinces to improve the freedom of the movement of individuals inside Yemen, and to facilitate the entry of 18 fuel -carrying ships into the ports of Hodeidah in western Yemen within two months, in addition to allowing two air flights to and from Sanaa International Airport weekly.
However, the Houthi militia interfered last week, forcing a third extension of the cease-fire and creating intolerable circumstances.
