Amr Talaat, the Minister of Communications, announced last April that Egypt had contracted with a consultative experience house to study the optimal form to provide the 5G services in Egypt for individuals and companies. At the time, he predicted that the study would be finished in two months.
Engineer Hazem Mitwalli, CEO of Etisalat Egypt, one of the E& Group companies, said in a press conference yesterday that the availability of the services of the fifth generation of the mobile in the Egyptian market is not related to the company.
“We are technically and technically prepared and we have the experience to give this service, and in the interim, we are accessible to research the issue and establish the company’s position,” Metwally continued.
The fifth-generation technology was first introduced by an Arab nation in the Gulf, specifically the UAE, in 2017. After that, the “Ooredoo” company in Qatar became the first business in the world to commercially introduce the service, and Saudi Arabia was the first Arab nation to distribute it to the most cities, with 20 cities covered in 2018 and 71 cities on the horizon in 2019.
According to a report by Deutsche Welle, Egypt has not yet offered the service, and there is no firm schedule for its introduction in the near future, especially given the investment it needs in infrastructure. Morocco anticipates launching the fifth generation technology in 2023.
While Jordan recently granted licences to two companies to offer the service at the latest next year, Algeria recently announced research for planning to launch the service without a defined timeframe.
What prevents the spread of the Arab service is that the current infrastructure in multiple countries does not even allow a better spread of the fourth generation service, and there are numerous complaints related to twice as fast Internet, particularly in suburbs and villages, where several areas experience significant twice as much as in telephone networks.
