Cholera infection increased this year, especially in areas with poverty and conflict ravages, with a disease outbreak in 26 countries and a sharp rise in death rates, according to global health.
According to Philip Barbosa, chief of the World Health Organization’s cholera control division, after years of drop in numbers, cholera outbreaks have increased significantly in the past year.
Cholera is a disease that only affects fewer than 20 nations and can cause severe diarrhoea when consumed through contaminated food or water.
People with cholera suffer from mild symptoms or do not suffer from any symptoms, the disease can lead to death within hours if it is not treated.
Cholera’s emergence in Lebanon
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported the first cholera death in the nation, along with a significant number of injuries following the severity of the disease in the neighbouring Syrian region.
The National Information Agency quoted a report by the Ministry that eight new injuries were recorded in cholera in the past twenty -four, which raised the total confirmed injuries to 26 in the northern regions since the disease was discovered in Lebanon on the fifth of this month.

According to the official news agency, the health authorities in Syria reported that 41 cholera-related deaths and more than 700 injuries had been reported (SANA).
The majority of Syrian refugees are poor, and because of Lebanon’s economic woes, their living conditions have gotten worse.
Warning from the UN
The sickness is “developing into a threat,” the UN had earlier this month warned.
