Ukraine’s Kyiv area hit by Iranian-made kamikaze drones

Officials claim that Iranian-made kamikaze drones attacked the Ukrainian capital region today, prompting rescuers to rush to the scene as people awoke to air raid sirens for the fourth morning in a row as a result of Russia’s huge assault on the country earlier this week.
Oleksiy Kuleba, the governor of the Kyiv region, stated that the strike took place in the vicinity of the city. If there were any casualties, it wasn’t immediately apparent.

Deputy head of the presidential office Kyrylo Tymoshenko said on Telegram that “critical infrastructure facilities” in the area were hit, without offering any details on which ones.
As fighting raged on Ukraine’s southern front overnight, a five-story apartment building in the southern city of Mykolaiv was completely demolished.

Mykolaiv regional governor Vitali Kim said that an 11-year-old boy was rescued from under the rubble, where he had spent six hours, and rescuers were searching for seven more people, Kim said.
He claimed that an S-300 missile, which is typically used to target military aircraft but which Russians are reportedly increasingly utilising for inaccurate ground strikes, struck the building.

Early morning attacks on Ukraine’s southern front have become a daily occurrence in Russia’s war as Kyiv’s forces push a counteroffensive aimed at recapturing territory occupied by Moscow.
Prior to Monday’s widespread strikes, which left at least 19 people dead and over 100 injured throughout the nation, attacks on Kyiv had been increasingly infrequent.

This week, Western countries vowed to deliver Ukraine more armaments, including air defence systems and other gear that Kiev has deemed essential for fending off Russian invaders.
The Pentagon intends to transfer cutting-edge NASAM anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine in the upcoming weeks, and Britain stated it will supply missiles for such systems. Along with 18 more howitzer artillery pieces, it is also sending hundreds more airborne drones for information collection and logistical support.

“These weapons will help Ukraine defend its skies from attacks and boost its overall missile defence alongside the US NASAMS,” UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace stated.
The devices will offer medium- to long-range missile defence, which Kyiv has long desired.
The offer comes as NATO defence ministers gather in Brussels to discuss strengthening Ukraine’s aerial defences in the wake of Monday’s extensive Russian offensive.

The Ukrainian military reported this week that its current air defences have destroyed numerous Russian missiles and Shahed-136 drones, sometimes known as “kamikaze drones,” which have become an increasingly lethal factor in the conflict.
