Macron: France will continue to help Ukraine to resist and establish peace

In order to prevent any further escalation of the conflict, French President Emmanuel Macron emphasised that his nation will continue to assist Ukraine in its efforts to resist, establish peace, and prevent conflict from expanding (by using chemical or nuclear weapons). French nuclear policy is quite clear and is based on the fundamental interests of the country.

Regarding the French military assistance to Kyiv, Macron stressed that France has already handed over 18 “Caesar” artillery to Ukraine, and this represents more than a quarter of the 76th Hautezer defender used by the French army, and renewed its intention to provide more to the Ukrainian authorities.
In a related context, Macron said that whereas Europe used to purchase around 40% of its gas from Russia, that percentage has since dropped to 7.5%.

On the issue of the energy crisis, the French President referred to the reform of the European electricity market and emphasised that it would allow France to have a variety of power pricing and have an electricity price that was no longer dependent on the price of gas.

In response to a question regarding the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the French President stated that his nation does not import gas from Azerbaijan. According to 2020 data from the French Ministry of Environmental Transformation, 36% of France’s natural gas imports came from Norway, the country’s primary supplier of gas, which France advanced to Russia (17%), Algeria (8%) and the Netherlands (8%), Nigeria (7%) and Qatar (2%), before the war in Ukraine.

In the face of the economic crisis, which has been made worse by the conflict in Ukraine, he noted that France is doing a better job of addressing its neighbours, and it is possible that many of them will experience stagnation.

The “Total Energy” stations in different parts of France experienced a shortage of fuel amid increased demand due to low prices as well as a workers’ strike that exacerbated the situation. Macron concluded his remarks by confirming that the situation in France will return to normal in the distribution of hydrocarbons during the next week.
