Semi fire closes Calgary’s Stoney Trail in one direction

The northbound lanes of Calgary’s eastern ring road were closed due to a truck fire, which left commuters stranded for more than an hour.
According to the Calgary Fire Department, a semi truck caught fire at around 5:20 p.m. on Stoney Trail N. E., north of McKnight Blvd. N. E.
When the tractor unit caught fire, CFD reported that the driver was unharmed. One of the trailers was also slightly damaged by the fire.

Stoney Trail’s southbound lanes had delays due to the thick smoke that was blowing over them.
Traffic appeared to be backed up past 16 Avenue N. E. on Google Maps.
The City of Calgary’s transportation division reported that the northbound lanes of Stoney Trail were remained stopped an hour after the call into CFD.
One lane on the northbound route was reopened shortly before 7 o’clock.
In the region, expect delays, the city said.
