Kuwait stresses the importance of adopting positions based on international law in the resolutions of the Human Rights Council

Kuwait stressed the significance of adopting positions based on international law, solid foundations, and balance in the resolutions of the United Nations Human Rights Council, according to Ambassador Nasser Al-Hain, the Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva.

And according to what was reported by the Kuwait News Agency this evening, Saturday, Al-Hain stated – on the occasion of the conclusion of the 51st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council – that the delegation of the State of Kuwait closely followed and actively participated in the discussions that took place over the course of the past four weeks and had significant contributions to the work of The political and regional groups to which the State of Kuwait belongs.

He continued by saying that the delegation had worked along with delegations from other GCC nations to draught remarks on the various topics on the session’s agenda. Additionally, it participated in the Council’s deliberations in its official capacity by delivering a number of statements on topics of great interest to the State of Kuwait, such as the state of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Syria, and Yemen, as well as other issues brought up by special rapporteurs.

The extension of the mandates of the rapporteurs who are concerned with the rights of the elderly, the right to development, and the right to access to safe drinking water, among other significant decisions made by the Human Rights Council, he noted, strengthen all human rights and serve as their pillars.

He emphasised the significance of the Global Program for Education in the Field of Human Rights and Safety of Journalists’ work, the preservation of a just and democratic international system, the need for accountability and the rule of law, and the promotion of human rights for children.

As the world strives for harmony, limits human rights abuses and violations, and creates safe societies, the Kuwaiti ambassador applauded the council’s approval of strengthening capacity-building for governments to incorporate human rights in all of their work. This will enhance the dissemination and promotion of a culture of human rights among societies.

He emphasised the balanced policy pursued by the State of Kuwait in supporting peace and peaceful solutions as the only entrance to resolving all conflicts in various regions of the world. He noted that this session witnessed discussions on 42 draught resolutions and that a heated atmosphere predominated during discussions related to the developments of the political situation around the world.
