Protest movements in many German cities to denounce the rise in rents

Protest activities against overly expensive rents were seen in various German towns, and organisers estimated that several thousand people took part.
According to Matthias Weinzirl, a spokesman for the Campaign to Stop Rents, “we were extremely delighted and made obvious to us how anxious people are about the potential that they will not be able to pay the rent.”

Those involved in the alliance include groups like the German Tenants Federation, the Equality Association, the German Federation of Trade Unions, and the Workers’ Welfare Federation. The coalition is said to support more than 160 initiatives.

The alliance proposes that reforms to the real estate sector start right away, including the development of a social land legislation and an increase in the construction of cheap apartments. The campaign’s aim is to stabilise rents for six years throughout Germany.
