Burkina Faso organizes a “national conference” in mid-October to appoint a transitional president

According to a presidential decree released on Saturday, the living forces of Burkina Faso will gather for a “national conference” on October 14 and 15 in order to select a transitional president before holding elections in the nation that has experienced two coups in the past eight months.

A national meeting will be convened on October 14 and 15 in the nation’s capital, Ouagadougou, according to a directive from Captain “Ibrahim Traore,” who assumed control following a coup a week ago and was named interim president.

Captain Traore, who was formally named head of state on Wednesday, had previously stated that he would only be in charge of “day-to-day affairs” until the conclusion of a “national conference” that would be held “before the end of the year,” when a new transitional president, either civilian or military, would be chosen.
The national conference is attended by representatives of the social, political, and civil society.
