Kyiv to the Russian President after the Crimean Bridge explosion: Happy Birthday to Putin

Today, many in Ukraine are claiming that the bridge leading to the territory of Crimea that is held by Russia was destroyed or severely damaged, only one day after Russian President Vladimir Putin turned 70.
A video of the burning bridge connecting Russia and the Crimea was also made public by the secretary of the Ukrainian Security Council, Alexei Danilov, along with a clip of Marilyn Monroe singing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to former US President John F. Kennedy in 1962.

At least three people were killed in the huge explosion that occurred this morning and disrupted the main supply route for Russian forces, according to the National Investigation Committee in Moscow.
Video footage of the aftermath of the explosion shows a damaged driveway and wrecked car parts floating on the surface of the water under the bridge, as well as several burnt cars of a freight train said to be used to transport diesel fuel.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been revealed.

But the Russian authorities say that the cause was a truck explosion, while Ukrainian media say that the Secret Service is responsible for the operation, according to security services in Kyiv.
Preliminary results indicate that the truck was heading from the Russian mainland to the port city of Kerch in Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.

The bridge, which links mainland Russia and Crimea, is very iconic for Russia. In 2018, the Russian president ceremoniously opened the bridge in a boisterous celebration.
The Ukrainian Security Council Secretary’s video was extensively shared on social media, and many people commented that Putin should receive a special gift on his birthday.

Danilov and Dmitry Medvedev have already engaged in rhetorical exchanges after the latter warned Kyiv last summer that it would face “doomsday” if it attempted to recapture Crimea.
Danilov responded in response, reiterating that Ukraine would unquestionably retake Crimea.
And according to early reports from the police, a vehicle explosion on the Crimean bridge between six and seven in the morning caused a train that was crossing the bridge to catch fire in several fuel tanks.

After the explosion on the Crimean Bridge, Kyiv wrote to the Russian President: Putin, happy birthday!
