With five Brentford .. Newcastle climb to fifth place

One year and one day after a Saudi-led coalition assumed control of the team, Bruno Guimaraes scored twice to lead Newcastle United to a 5-1 victory over Brentford in the Premier League and bring the team up to fifth place.
After evaluating the VAR, the referee disallowed Brian Mbomo’s goal for Brentford in the 10th minute because Evan Toni was in an offside position as the attack was being built.

But after just 11 minutes, Guimaraes scored with a strong header off of a Kieran Trippier cross that was delivered just right in the 21st. After a brief period of defensive lapse on the part of Brentford, Jacob Murphy added a second goal after utilising a ball from Callum Wilson.

Tony scored from the spot to close the gap after Dan Byrne was penalised for handball, but Guimaraes added a second goal, Miguel Almiron added another, and Ethan Pinnock committed an own goal to give Newcastle a convincing win.
With 14 points, Newcastle sits in fifth place, four points behind Brentford in 12th.

With five points from Brentford, Newcastle moves up to sixth.
