Minister of Supply: Egypt has self-sufficiency in rice.. This is the reason for the high cost of meat

The Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi, stated that Egypt has a secure strategic store of goods, particularly rice, and noted that Egypt is self-sufficient in this regard.
In a press interview with one of the local news outlets, Al-Moselhi remarked that Egypt has 2. 3 months’ worth of rice stockpiles. He noted that the rice harvest season has started and that the cultivated area totals 1. 4 million acres, producing between 5.

5 to 6 million tonnes of barley, and we aim to produce 1.5 million tonnes of barley year so that the Ministry of Supply has a reserve,
Nasr has a strategic store of frozen poultry that will last for seven months, according to the Minister of Supply. With regard to live poultry, we are self-sufficient.

Al-Moselhi noted that Egypt has a four-month strategic reserve of frozen meat and that a two-year deal was struck with Sudan for live beef, of which one and a half years remain.

The production of live meat, which originates from Sudan and is shipped to Abu Simbel or the southern part of the valley, is ongoing, he continued, and it is quarantined for 45 days before being transferred to slaughterhouses, where it is killed, and then distributed to distribution points in different governorates of the Republic. He emphasised how well this cooperation with Sudan has worked.

The Minister of Supply noted that the high cost of feed is primarily to blame for the high cost of meat around the world, noting that meat costs 145 pounds per kg at the ministry’s stores, 115 pounds for fresh Sudanese meat, and 85 pounds for frozen meat.

Egypt has its own supply of rice, according to the supply minister. This is the reason why beef is so expensive.
