Nissan pressures partner Renault to sell its stake

Nissan owns 15% of the shares with voting rights, while Renault, a French automaker, controls approximately 43% of Nissan without voting privileges.
The alliance deal between Nissan and Renault, the company’s largest stakeholder, was initially made public in June. This agreement forbids Renault from unilaterally increasing its holding to more than 44.4%.

The two firms are reportedly negotiating whether Nissan will join the new Renault subsidiary that will merge the assets of its electric car in exchange for the French ally lowering its investment in Nissan, according to a report in the newspaper published yesterday.
According to the publication, Ashwani Gupta, the chief operating officer of Nissan, was one of the business’s representatives who travelled to France last month to discuss whether the Japanese automaker might participate in the fledgling Renault electric car company.
