Pink diamond sells for record $103M at Hong Kong auction

The highest price per carat for a diamond sold at auction was established by a pink diamond that fetched NZ $103 million on Friday in Hong Kong.
The 11. 15-carat Williamson Pink Star diamond fetched $392 million Hong Kong dollars at auction through Sotheby’s Hong Kong.
Two fabled pink gems are the source of the name of the Williamson Pink Star. The 23 comes first.

The first is the 59. 60-carat Pink Star diamond, which sold for a record NZ$127 million at auction in 2017, and the second is the 60-carat Williamson diamond, which was given to the late Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding gift in 1947.
The second-largest pink diamond to be offered at auction is the Williamson Pink Star. Among the coloured diamonds, pink diamonds are among the rarest and most expensive.

According to Tobias Kormind, managing director of 77 Diamonds, “This is an incredible outcome, illustrating the endurance of exceptional diamonds in a fragile economy.”
According to him, “hard assets like top-notch diamonds have a history of doing well even in times of turmoil.” Prices for some of the highest-quality diamonds in the world have doubled in the past ten years.
