Analysts have predicted that Apple’s forthcoming iPhone will most likely support USB-C charging as a result of progress in the implementation of the normal chargers regulations in Europe.
A rule requiring USB Type-C charging ports on electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and cameras, sold in the European Union by the end of 2024 was approved by MPs in the European Parliament on Tuesday, according to CNBC. Al Arabiya.net also gave it a review.
Unlike USB-C chargers, Apple now uses its proprietary Lightning chargers. But when Apple’s newest phone, the iPhone 15, is released, that may change.
Ben Wood, the head analyst at CCS Insight, stated in a note earlier this week that “it is now certain that Apple will give up and switch to USB-C on the iPhone 15 in 2023.”
He continued, “The iPhone 15 could represent a bigger stride in design as Apple has already switched to a USB-C charging technology on the MacBook and iPad Pro.
According to IDC tech industry analyst Brian Ma, if Apple converts to USB-C next year, the US tech giant will update all of its iPhone models, not only those sold in the European Union.
If they don’t think they’re generating a lot of [money] from these chargers and accessories, it would probably make sense to switch to this widely used charger, Ma continued.
With the modification, Apple’s charging connections will work with rivals like Samsung, which already employs USB-C.
It comes as EU law, which took almost ten years to design, is expected to receive its final approval this year.
Different charging standards, according to lawmakers, squander resources, and the bill will prevent consumers from having to buy a new charger each time they purchase a new device.
