US approves $3 billion arms sale to Kuwait

The US State Department has cleared a potential $3 billion contract to sell Kuwait a surface-to-air missile system, a medium-range air defence system, and supporting equipment, according to the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) today, Thursday.

The planned agreement, according to the ministry, “would strengthen Kuwait’s capacity to combat present and future threats by boosting its capacity to protect itself against regionally active hostile forces and by enhancing compatibility with systems used by US forces and other Gulf governments.”
Raytheon Missile and Defense Corporation was listed as the Pentagon’s major contractor.
