The Yemeni president clings to peace and holds al-Houthi responsible for compromising the truce

The Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council reaffirmed today, Thursday, its dedication to the pursuit of an equitable, all-encompassing, and long-lasting peace that satisfies Yemeni citizens’ hopes by reestablishing state institutions and putting an end to the Houthi militia’s coup.

Rashad Al-Alimi, the head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, along with other members of the council and state leaders expressed their deep regret at the failure of UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg’s efforts to extend the cease-fire because of the Houthi militia’s stubbornness in shedding more blood and aggravating the worst humanitarian crisis in history.

President Al-Alimi welcomed the international community’s stance and unity on the Yemeni problem, but he asserted that these qualities are insufficient to dissuade this militia and those who support it.

The Presidential Command Council is credited with bringing the salary issue to the forefront of confidence-building measures, as a prior presidential pledge before the Yemeni people and their representatives, as well as the obligation of this entitlement under the Stockholm Agreement, which includes obligating the militia to supply Revenue, he added. He also expressed his surprise at the Houthi militia’s justifications for withdrawing from the armistice agreement.

The Houthi militia was blamed at the meeting for ignoring the significant benefits that the cease-fire brought to the people living under its control, demonstrating how dependent it is on the Iranian regime, and prioritising the interests of this regime and its subversive project over those of the Yemeni people.

He also condemned the terrorist threats made by the Houthi militia commanders against national institutions, neighbours, and international shipping lines, reiterating the state’s commitment to upholding national interests and preventing hostilities from escalating.

The Yemeni president fights for peace and accuses al-Houthi of undermining the cease-fire.
