3 people suspected of belonging to ISIS held in pretrial detention in Germany

Three people were detained in pretrial detention in Germany at the Public Prosecution Office’s request because they may be ISIS members.

One of the three individuals, according to a statement released by the prosecution today, Thursday, is thought to have been a part of ISIS hostilities since he was fourteen years old and later led a group of youths in an institution to combat extremism, where this group engaged in physical violence with other members of the institution under the pretext that they were unbelievers.

The prosecution also claimed that this man’s mother had brought him to Syria when she visited that country in June 2013 when he was eleven years old. After joining ISIS, the woman and her companion reared the son in accordance with ISIS’s philosophy.
The second defendant, who was held in pretrial detention, is a woman who is charged by the prosecution with producing explosive belts and providing driving services for a women’s battalion connected to the organisation.

However, before the operation was called off, the woman selected two “sisters” to marry the two attackers and gave them a place to live discretely until the attack, according to the prosecution. Prosecutors claimed that in the fall of 2016, ISIS members were trying to recruit and smuggle fighters to launch an attack on a German concert.

The prosecution went on to say that the third defendant is a different woman who attempted to recruit German women to join ISIS through her presence in Syria. They claimed that this woman once owned a rapid-fire rifle and a cartridge rifle, which she left in a Kurdish camp after turning herself in in 2019; additionally, they claimed that another prisoner pushed her back to Germany after she was abusing her because she was a “apostate.”

The three individuals were Germans, and they were taken from the Al-Rouj camp in northern Syria to Frankfurt, Germany, yesterday evening, Wednesday, as part of a repatriation operation to the German government.
