Lavrov: Our position on nuclear deterrence is consistent and Ukraine is creating risks

Lavrov cautioned Washington against rashly supporting Kiev and getting involved in the conflict in a video interview while speaking at a gathering of the “United Russia” party. He noted that Ukraine creates risks associated with the use of WMDs, as shown by Vladimir Zelensky’s remarks about NATO’s “preemptive strike” on Russia.

“We cannot simply dismiss the conversations that have been escalating recently about the potential use of nuclear weapons, and we cannot support the reckless acts of the Kyiv government that try to increase the likelihood that various types of WMD would be used,” Lavrov continued.

He said, “Zelensky called on his Western masters to conduct a preemptive nuclear strike against Russia yesterday, giving the world more proof of the threats coming from the Kyiv dictatorship and the neutralising of the special military operation.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, has earlier stated that NATO should begin “preemptive” military action against Russia rather than “wait for Russian nuclear strikes.”

Lavrov: We remain committed to nuclear deterrence, and Ukraine poses risks.
