RCMP confirm Global News reports on James Smith Cree Nation suspect Damien Sanderson

Skye Sanderson said she finally has closure.
“It hurts so much,” she said. “But now I know. My kids know. ”
Skye, the widow of Damien Sanderson, always defended her husband, saying he was not a murderer but another victim of the James Smith Cree Nation stabbings.
Speaking to Global News’ Ashleigh Stewart, Skye said Damien’s brother Myles Sanderson was responsible for the 11 dead and 18 injured.
On Thursday, more than a month after the attacks, Saskatchewan RCMP confirmed that.

“Myles Sanderson killed Damien. During a press conference, Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore told the media, “We know that to be true.
And he had no part in any of the killings.
All allegations against him have been dismissed by the RCMP.
Speaking to Stewart once again, Skye admitted that she was unsure of how to feel following the press conference.

Skye claimed that the RCMP had called her earlier in the day to inform her that a press conference was being held to address the attacks but that they would not reveal what would be said.
I merely asked them, “Will it be something good, or should I brace myself once more, to prepare myself for the worst once more?” says Skye.
They advised me to watch it with some support in place since they believed it would turn out well.
Skye, however, opted to watch the announcement by herself in her van.

Despite the fact that she had always assumed Damien’s brother had killed him, she stated it was tough to learn the news formally.
She also claims that the RCMP let her family down and let themselves off the hook on a number of occasions.
Skye earlier informed Global News that RCMP police spoke to Damien 24 hours before to the stabbings but did not recognise him. Blackmore confirmed this during the press conference.

Blackmore concurred that Damien used a false identity and that cops failed to request identification, which also matched Skye’s account.
The calls and chats that, according to Blackmore, led the RCMP to James Smith Cree Nation all coincided with the timeframe provided by Skye, albeit Blackmore chose not to identify her.
In spite of Myles Sanderson’s several warrants and violent past, the head of the RCMP in Saskatchewan told reporters that officers weren’t hunting for him since they didn’t know he was around.

I can’t believe RCMP were so close and yet didn’t stop Damien and Myles, according to an older man and the brother of another victim who spoke to Global News.
And he claimed that if authorities had checked ID when hunting for a stolen vehicle, the deaths and injuries might not have occurred.

Ivor Wayne Burns, whose sister Gloria perished in the attacks, claimed that officers failed to do their jobs because they have “that redneck mentality towards Indians,” which leads them to assume that “we don’t have to check around really good like (like if it were) white folks.”
He told Global News that the RCMP needs a detachment on James Smith territory and said that the violence could have been reduced if cops had arrived more quickly.
Due to Skye’s outspokenness on the events of September,

4, she says her relationship with Damien and Myles’s family had broken down. Their parents had “chosen sides”, she said, and stopped speaking to her — including Damien’s mother, Beverley, who lived with the couple prior to the murders.
She hopes the new information will reach Damien’s relatives.
And after fiercely defending her husband, a dedicated father, she now must face the horrible reality of caring for their family without him.
“I’m still picking up the pieces today,” she said. .

She claims that on day 4, her relationship with Damien and Myles’ family was no longer intact. She claimed that their parents, especially Damien’s mother, Beverley, who shared a home with the couple before the killings, had “taken sides” and ceased communicating with her.
She hopes Damien’s family will learn the new details.
And after vehemently defending her devoted father-husband, she now has to confront the horrifying reality of raising their family without him.
She admitted, “I’m still gathering up the pieces today.
