Canadian Canoe Museum selects Silver Bean Café as the new museum’s café operator

The future Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough will have a café run by the Peterborough-based Silver Bean Café.
The news was announced on Thursday by officials, who noted that the museum had requested bids from suitable companies in March for the provision of a café at its brand-new facility on the edge of Little Lake.

The new $40 million, 65,000 square foot museum is still being built on Ashburnham Drive. It is scheduled to open in the summer of 2023 and include more than 600 canoes, kayaks, and paddles in addition to hundreds of other antiques, books, and other items. According to the museum, it has the greatest collection of kayaks and canoes in existence.
The Silver Bean Café will launch the new alliance the summer after next, with a café that can seat 32 people on the terrace and 30 inside.

The café is anticipated to be open every day of the week within the museum’s regular business hours.
According to museum executive director Carolyn Hyslop, “We were looking for an active, friendly, and inviting team with proven experience to manage and operate the museum’s new café, who was also community-minded and would work with us to enhance our visitor experience.”
The Silver Bean Café fit in perfectly.

We can’t wait to eat an ice cream while strolling along the trail and coastline or sipping an Americano by the outdoor fireplace on the lakefront patio.
The Silver Bean Cafe currently operates a location on King Street near the Otonabee River. Dan Brandsma, the site’s owner, believes it will continue to run seasonally, but he is enthusiastic about his new business.

In order to create a stunning new and welcoming café setting, the Silver Bean Café is teaming with the Canadian Canoe Museum, he said. It’s thrilling to be able to offer a place that will be open all year long and keep a presence on yet another gorgeous Nogojiwanong/Peterborough coastline with gorgeous indoor and patio options.

The menu will feature light lunches with specialty sandwiches and salads, breakfast made to order, including freshly baked scones, desserts baked in-house and imported from other local bakeries, locally roasted coffee and espresso drinks, Kawartha Dairy ice cream in the summer, soup, chilli, and other comfort foods in the winter, as well as a variety of grab-and-go choices, according to Brandsma. Alcohol will also be allowed to be served at the café.

We believe we have a natural affinity with the museum’s principles, culture, and waterfront setting and will make every effort to enhance the experience with great, fresh, local food and drink options. What an honour; we look forward to it.
On September 6, the current museum on Monaghan Road closed for the year. 93% of the $40 million target for the capital campaign has been raised thus far for the new museum.
