A Pentagon official announces the killing of a senior ISIS leader in Syria

Al-Madina News: A Pentagon-affiliated official confirmed to Al-Jazeera that a high-ranking member of the Islamic State organisation was killed during an operation in northeastern Syria.

The American source stated that the operation’s main objective was to apprehend the Islamic State official who was in charge of importing weapons, stressing that American forces wounded a second individual during the operation and detained him together with two other group members.
He described how the US military initiated the assault against ISIS on their own and with the use of helicopters.

One person was killed and several others were kidnapped as a result of an airdrop operation carried out by US forces in Syria in the village of Molouk Saray in the countryside of the Hasaka governorate, according to Syrian state media.
Regime-aligned media lamented the death of the guy, hailed him as a martyr, revealed that he was a civilian, and made it very evident that an Iraqi was among those abducted by US soldiers during the landing operation.

Local sources further confirmed to Al Jazeera that the American forces who conducted the airdrop operation in the village of Molouk Saray took the deceased man’s body with them during the operation. The slain individual, according to Syrian opposition-affiliated media, belonged to a military organisation that was part of the military security of the Syrian regime.

In addition, the Pentagon’s Central Command referred to Maher Al-Akal as “one of the five most significant commanders in the group” when it declared in July of last year that it had killed the “Islamic State” organization’s leader in Syria.
The Islamic State’s leader, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Qurashi, was killed by US special forces in Atma, Idlib Governorate, northwest Syria, five months prior to that attack.

The Pentagon: We are committed to protecting our allies despite North Korea’s disruptive and reckless behaviour.
According to the US Department of Defense, “the aircraft carrier Reagan performed training to counter ballistic missiles alongside Japanese and South Korean forces, and these exercises came in response to the recent missile tests by North Korea.

“We continue to work with our partners to show our commitment to their defence because North Korea’s actions is disruptive and irresponsible,” she added.
