Lebanon records the first cholera case in 32 years

The patient is receiving treatment, and his condition is stable. The case was reported last Wednesday in the rural Akkar governorate in the north of the nation.

Then, the Lebanese Society for Bacterial Diseases, the Doctors Syndicate, the Nursing Syndicate, and representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Water, the Disaster Management Unit in the Council of Ministers, and the Red Cross attended a coordination meeting with the relevant partners, which was hosted by Minister of Health Firas Al-Abyad.

The cholera preparedness and response strategy for the Lebanese Ministry of Health, which was created in conjunction with UNICEF and the World Health Organization and with the consent of all healthcare partners, was presented.
A crisis cell with experts and specialists was established to address the cholera outbreak and monitor daily developments.

It is important to understand that the bacteria that causes cholera can spread from one person to another by contaminated hands, infected food, or polluted water.
The illness takes between two and five days to incubate. Profound watery diarrhoea is one of the symptoms, which can cause consequences that, if left untreated, can be fatal.
