Indonesian police charge 6 people in stadium disaster

Following a stampede at a soccer tournament over the weekend that left at least 131 people dead, the Indonesian police chief said Thursday that six people are being charged criminally.
Match organisers and police officers were among those under investigation, according to Listio Siget Prabhu, who also said that charges may be taken against additional individuals.

The fatal stampede at a football game was preceded by 11 police officers firing tear gas canisters; during the stampede, the exits to the stadium were extremely congested and security staff were not present, according to the police statement.
The majority of the dead perished because the organising committee failed to offer emergency measures, and the director of the Indonesian police has named six suspects in relation to the incident at the stadium.
