After the Iranian uprising, the European Union is about to sign new sanctions on the regime due to the suppression of protests

The suppression of the protests that were ignited by the “death” of the young woman Mahsa Amini and that resulted in the “Iran uprising” taking place in all Iranian towns prompted the European Union to announce that it is considering placing fresh sanctions on Iran.
Mahsa Amini, an Iranian-Kurdish lady in her twenties, passed just three days after she was detained by Tehran’s morality police for failing to adhere to the Islamic dress code.

Her death sparked a wave of protests in Iran as well as marches in solidarity of Iranian women all across the world.
The Oslo-based “IHR Organization for Human Rights in Iran” (IHR) reports that since September, at least 92 individuals have perished in Iran. About 60 individuals were reported dead by the government, including 12 members of the security forces. More than a thousand people were detained.

Sanctions are what Josep Borrell, the head of the EU’s foreign policy, meant when he said that the EU was evaluating all options, including them, in response to the murder of Mahsa Amini and the way Iranian security forces handled the protesters.

The European Union is preparing further sanctions against the authorities in response to the repression of protesters during the Iranian uprising.
