The United Nations holds an emergency meeting to consider Russia’s annexation of the Ukrainian regions

The UN General Assembly will meet in an extraordinary session on Monday, October 10, to consider the issue of Russia’s annexation of four regions of Ukraine. Ukraine and Albania requested the meeting, according to AFP.
The discussion, which will discuss Russia’s plans to annex parts of Ukraine, was announced by Polina Kubik, the communications secretary for the UN General Assembly.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, his troops have retaken “dozens” of localities this week from Russia and are making “quick and robust” progress there.
Zelensky said that “dozens of settlements” had been rebuilt in the south and east in his daily social media post, and he added that “the Ukrainian army is advancing extremely swiftly and powerfully in the south.”

According to a military map presented by the Russian Defense Ministry at a daily news briefing, Russian military forces have largely withdrawn in the south of Ukraine and the north of the Kherson region.
The map reveals that the Russian forces withdrew from a large number of places, notably Dudchane on the western bank of the Dnieper River, when the Ukrainian army began a counterattack in the area.

The annexation of some Ukrainian areas by Russia is the topic of an unusual UN conference.
