On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that his country’s troops had retaken three Russian-held villages in the southern Kherson region.
In a video clip shared on social media, he continued, “Novovoskresensky, Novogrigorievka, and Petropavlevka (…) have been liberated in the previous 24 hours. He also emphasised that the counterattack was “ongoing.
“As the Ukrainians took control of lands that Russia seeks to annex in conjunction with the vote of the upper chamber of the Russian parliament on Tuesday, approving the so-called “accession treaties” of those regions, the progress of the Ukrainian army on a number of fronts, especially in the east and south, threatens the supply lines of thousands of Russian forces, as well as the annexation plan that Moscow is working to implement.
On Tuesday, Zelensky declared that his force was moving “rapidly and strongly” in the south and that it had taken back “dozens” of towns from the Russians in the south and east this week.
In his daily speech shared on social media, Putin said that the four provinces that Russia annexed at the end of the previous week were seeing “rapid and significant progress in the south of our country. Dozens of towns were liberated this week alone.”
Russian authorities acknowledged that the Ukrainian tank onslaught progressed for a distance of tens of kilometres along the western side of the river, and Kyiv recaptured a number of settlements along the way, according to Reuters. However, Kyiv did not disclose much information about the gains it made.
The advancement of Ukrainian forces in the south and east “increases the problems at the level of the Russian chain of command, faster than the Russians can effectively confront,” a Western official who declined to be named said in press statements published by the “Washington Post,” noting that “this situation exacerbates the imbalance” currently present in the Russian invasion forces.
According to a senior US military officer, Russian soldiers are still conducting offensive operations in northern and eastern Ukraine. He mentioned that artillery munitions were used by Russian forces to bombard the Ukrainian-controlled town of Kobyansk close to Luhansk.
Zelensky declares that Russian soldiers had taken back more territories.
