Germany returns a group of women and children from camps in northeastern Syria

Germany reported Wednesday night that it had returned four more women and seven more children from Syria, confirming that “nearly all known cases” of German families in extremist concentration camps in this nation had been resolved.
German Foreign Minister Annalina Birbock announced in a statement that “seven children and four additional women had been evacuated to Germany from Roj camp in northeastern Syria tonight.”

Since the demise of the ISIS “caliphate” in 2019, the return of families of terrorists who were captured or murdered in Syria and Iraq has been a contentious topic in many European Union nations; nonetheless, Germany has made attempts to carry out regular family repatriations.
Along with women and children, the group that was returned on Wednesday also included an adolescent “who was transported to Syria when he was eleven years old.

“I am pleased that this action allowed practically all known cases to be resolved, ” the German foreign minister stated.
She continued, “I feel especially happy that children are not accountable for their parents’ fatal life decisions,” highlighting the fact that they could not have been left in the camps in northern Syria without a horizon.

The ladies and young men who were returned “shall be prosecuted for their acts,” according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and they will be detained when they arrive in Germany.
The same source explained that “in the other cases, moms do not currently wish to return home,” adding that “at this time, there is only one case that has been arrested, but her return has not yet been implemented.

The ministry reported that 76 minors and 26 women in total have been returned from northeastern Syria to Germany within the context of six operations completed thus far.
