Macron will attend the Asia-Pacific summit with an unprecedented invitation to a French president

According to the Elysee, French diplomacy considers the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation to be a priority. French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Bangkok on November 18 to attend the summit.
The French president told AFP that “this invitation, given to a French head of state for the first occasion since this organisation was founded in 1989, reflects the progress made since the publication of the Indo-Pacific Strategy in 2018.”

It also reflects “the possibilities of new cooperation in this region, which includes 93 percent of the French exclusive economic zone, in which 1. 5 million of our citizens live, particularly in New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Wallis, Futuna, Mayotte, and Reunion Island,” according to the French presidency.
Following the G20 summit in Indonesia, Emmanuel Macron will attend this gathering.
Macron “will exchange thoughts with our partners on future initiatives in the Indo-Pacific,” according to the French presidency.

France is expressing a rising desire to invest in the Asia-Pacific area, where China and the United States are engaged in an intensifying competition.

Having received the first-ever invitation for a French president, Macron will attend the Asia-Pacific summit.
