Central Bank of Ukraine governor resigns abruptly citing health reasons

The head of the Central Bank of Ukraine, Kirillo Shevchenko, abruptly submitted his resignation to Volodymyr Zelensky, citing health reasons.
In a statement issued by the National Bank of Ukraine on Tuesday night, Shevchenko, 49, stated, “I made a difficult decision owing to health concerns that can no longer be ignored.”
“I thank the President of Ukraine for his confidence in me and the work we were able to do together both before and during the war,” he concluded.

He claimed that despite Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the country’s financial system continued to operate normally.
According to media sources, a dispute recently escalated between the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance.
Shevchenko, who assumed office in July 2020, encouraged saving as a result of ongoing fiscal deficits and voiced concern over how Ukraine was handling hyperinflation. And to finance the government, the central bank has already started issuing securities.

Half of the budget in the present design for 2023 must be covered by borrowing.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February of last year, Western nations have contributed significantly to the country’s budget, which includes military spending.
The European Union and Kiev announced on Monday that they had reached a memorandum of agreement for the EU to give Ukraine further macro-financial aid worth 5 billion euros.
