Al-Eryani: Houthi militia threatens global navigation in the Red Sea

Muammar Al-Eryani, the Yemeni minister of information, affirmed that the Houthi militia’s declaration that the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab, and the Arab Sea are military operating zones is a risky move that exposes the militia’s true nature as a terrorist organisation that disregards international treaties and laws.

He also cautioned in a tweet sent out on Tuesday that the decision threatens international shipping firms by focusing on cargo ships and oil tankers.

This threat, he continued, “confirms the veracity of the warnings issued by the Yemeni government from an early age regarding the continuation of a terrorist militia controlled by the Tehran regime over parts of the Yemeni coastal strip, posing a threat to the security and safety of international navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, as well as energy supplies, the foundation of the global economy.”

Additionally, he urged the international community, the UN, and the Security Council’s permanent members to adopt a firm stance on this grave threat.
A severe threat to regional and global peace and security now comes from the terrorist operations of the Iranian regime and its Houthi allies, to which he also urged them to live up to their legal obligations.

It is notable that the Houthi naval mine threat to the safety of commercial ships and the security of navigation in the international passageways in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait has been frequently warned against by the Yemeni government.
Numerous fisherman on the Yemeni coast have also died as a result of marine mines laid by the Houthi militia.

These mines have caused the fishing industry to stop in several regions, which has a negative impact on thousands of families who depend on the fishing industry.
