According to former Leeds and Coventry City striker Noel Whelan, German coach Jurgen Klopp intends to drop Egyptian sensation Mohamed Salah from the starting lineup due to his lacklustre performance since the season’s start.
The Premier League’s leading scorer thus far did not perform at the level he was renowned for throughout his tenure with Liverpool in the previous season, as his goals and pivotal passes were missing.
Jurgen Klopp was very patient with Salah and remained by him to encourage him over the past weeks, but I believe that the German coach’s patience has run out and his conviction will change soon, Whelan said on Tuesday to “Football Insider.” I think Salah is aware of his coach’s motives because he sits next to him on the bench.
He said, “Luis Diaz is currently the captain of Liverpool’s attack, and Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota will do everything they can to get the main striker. Roberto Firmino gets goals and plays well.
Salah may benefit from sitting on the bench to inspire his competitive spirit and motivate himself. According to Whelan, sometimes people need to experience pain in order to turn their lives around, and this is true of Salah, who has changed as a player since his team’s early-year loss in the African Nations Cup.
Last February, the Salah-led Egyptian side was defeated by Senegal in the African Cup final. A month later, in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, Senegal defeated Egypt once more.
In July of last year, Salah extended his deal with Liverpool through 2025.
Salah is set to be released by Liverpool, and he “knows” it.
