Signing an agreement to establish the ISESCO Chair for the Arabic Language at the Russian Islamic University

By creating the ISESCO Chair for the Arabic Language in the Service of Dialogue and Coexistence, which will be hosted by the Russian Islamic University of the Central Religious Authority of the Muslims of Russia, the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the Central Religious Authority of the Muslims of Russia, in the Republic of Bashkortostan, hope to elevate the status of the Arabic language among world languages.

According to a statement released by ISESCO today, the agreement was signed by Talaat Safa Tajeddin, Head of the Central Religious Organization for Muslims in Russia, and Dr. Salem bin Muhammad Al-Malik, Director General of ISESCO.

The statement made it clear that the chair’s purpose is to advance scientific and educational research on issues of the Arabic language for non-Arabic speakers at the Islamic University and is part of the cooperation programme between ISESCO and the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance to support the “Project of Teaching Arabic in Countries Speaking Other Languages.”

The teaching of the Arabic language in the context of regional specificities, the enrichment of cross-linguistic studies between the Arabic language and the students’ mother tongues, and the promotion of the literary, scientific, and cultural heritage preserved in written languages are all priorities at Ufa as well as in all educational and scientific research institutions in the Russian Federation and Central Asian countries. Introducing Islam’s moderation, its contributions to civilization, and its tolerant human values in the Arabic script in the Russian Federation and the Central Asian nations.

He emphasised that the creation of this chair is in line with ISESCO’s vision, which calls for funding university chairs specialising in Arabic for non-native speakers to strengthen the roles of universities in deepening applied linguistic research, supporting excellence, innovation, and diversifying sources of knowledge, so that universities lead national efforts to develop Arab education and serve as an academic incubator for it.
