The Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Unions urged pupils to skip class and emphasised its strong support for and solidarity with the nation’s widespread strikes and rallies.
After the security forces attacked Sharif University and surrounded the students for several hours on Sunday night, the request for this council was made public.

The oppressive forces “tried to stifle the voices of these young people demanding the rights of the homeland by attending Sharif University and rising weapons against the country’s elites,” the statement reads.
After word of the dire circumstances at Sharif University spread, residents appealed for assistance on social media, and videos depicting the crowds of people who gathered in the neighbouring streets to support the students were then shared online.

In order to avoid future embarrassment before their conscience and the people’s court, the Coordinating Council of Iranian Military Teachers’ Syndicates urged members to “perform their basic duty, which is to protect the lives and safety of citizens, stand by the protesters and those seeking justice, and separate from the oppressors and those ordering oppression.

In advance of World Teachers’ Day, the council urged students to walk out on Tuesday, October 4, and to “express their sympathy with all the protests against injustice.
This appeal comes as the Iranian people’s protests are intensifying in response to Mahsa Amini’s daily killing and the security forces’ efforts to disperse students and protesters in both small and large cities.

Iran’s teachers’ union urges students to strike and declares its support for the demonstrations.
