Pakistan seeks long-term US commitment to address climate change impacts

Masoud Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, urged the US to make a sustained commitment to helping developing nations like Pakistan deal with the effects of climate change, which disrupt social, economic, and natural systems.

“The recent devastation caused by the unprecedented floods in Pakistan and the cyclone in a number of American states clearly showed that there is no country that is immune to disaster,” Masoud Khan said in a statement during the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the United States. We are resistant to climate change, he asserted, urging cooperation and urgent action before it is too late.

Masoud Khan drew attention to the damage brought on by the recent floods in Pakistan, which uprooted 33 million people, including 16 million children, and submerged a third of the country’s territory. He also mentioned the catastrophes they brought about, such as water-borne diseases.
Masoud Khan urged the United States to commit to Pakistan for the long term so that it can tackle the challenge of rebuilding Pakistani territory after the floods.

Pakistan wants the US to commit over time to addressing the effects of climate change.
