Thousands attend Vancouver rally held in solidarity with Iran’s Mahsa Amini

On Saturday afternoon, thousands of people from British Columbia attended a rally in Vancouver.
The numerous demonstrators gathered in support of the current unrest in Iran and the passing of Iranian woman Mahsa Amini, 22. She passed away while being held by the “morality police” of Iran for reportedly donning her hijab too loosely.

Dr. Kathy Rahnavardi, a spokesperson for the Freedom Rally for Iran, said, “We want Canadians and everyone else in the world to be our voice to influence the lawmakers; it’s not simply assembling in the streets to be able to channel this energy and to sign the petitions.”
The demonstration participants formed a human chain that extended from Stanley Park in Vancouver to the city’s Art Gallery.
People were urged to don white as a symbol of unity.

Amini’s family has disputed the Iranian police’s assertion that she suffered no abuse and died of a heart attack. Without providing any proof, independent experts connected to the UN stated on Thursday that sources suggested she was badly assaulted by the morality police.
Around the world, there have been shows of sympathy, notably in Canada, where some women have decided to chop off their hair in support. On social media, that has developed into a viral trend.
