Yemen.. America welcomes Saudi Arabia’s support for extending the armistice

Anthony Blinken, the US secretary of state, spoke with Prince Faisal bin Farhan, his Saudi counterpart, when he announced that no progress had been made in extending the UN truce in Yemen, which expires on Sunday.
Additionally, Saudi Arabia’s support for extending the ceasefire in Yemen was welcomed by Washington, according to a statement made on Saturday by the US State Department.
The statement further stated that the two parties had discussed ways to bring about peace in the region.

The US ambassador to Yemen, Steve Fagin, voiced worry about the situation at the time these occurrences occurred.
The envoy urged the Yemeni parties on Twitter to accept the extension and expansion of the cease-fire and not waste the previous six months’ worth of efforts.

While the Yemeni government stated on Saturday that it would consider the extension request favourably, Muhammad Abdul Salam, a spokesman for the Houthi revolt, declared that the agreements had come to a “dead end.”
He said through his Telegram account that during the six months of the ceasefire, there was no genuine effort to address the humanitarian issue as an urgent priority.

It is significant that the Yemeni parties had decided to extend the ceasefire for two more months, under the same circumstances, and for the period between August 2 and October 2, 2022, as the UN had stated on August 2.
This prolongation followed a prior UN armistice that went into force in April 2022 and was in place for a two-month period on all fronts of conflict in Yemen.

Governorates to enable two flights per week to and from Sanaa International Airport, increase the freedom of movement of people inside Yemen, and facilitate the admission of 18 ships carrying gasoline to the ports of Hodeidah in western Yemen during the next two months.

Up until the United Nations once more put out the idea to extend the armistice, commencing on October 2, 2022, and to broaden its scope and lengthen its duration, highlighting how this issue had turned into an urgent humanitarian requirement.

America appreciates Saudi Arabia’s backing for extending the armistice in Yemen.
